Dr Joshua Benton - Structural Biologist

Josh Benton is a structural biologist with a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Biomedicine Discovery Institute at Monash University and a BSc (Hons) from the University of Melbourne. He uses cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and complementary biophysical techniques to interrogate protein structure, function, and dynamics. During his doctoral research, he characterised the assembly and signalling mechanisms of several human transmembrane receptors at near-atomic resolution. At Novoroo Bioscience, Josh investigates the structure of low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-1 (LRP1) and its interactions with endogenous and synthetic ligands, generating high-resolution insights into its role in proteinopathies and informing the development of precision therapeutics targeting neurodegenerative diseases.
